“Lightning illuminates the world; the earth sees and trembles. The heavens proclaim God's justice; all peoples see his glory.” – Psalms 97:4,6 SITUATION EXPLAINED Where does lightning come from? What’s the purpose of lightning? SOLUTION OFFERED Last night I sat outside on a patio during an incredible thunderstorm. Flashes of lightning filled the night sky, crashing to Earth with amazing force, and illuminating the sky like God’s private fireworks show. It was beautiful. Lightning is incredible…so much strength and power from the heavens, just crashing down to our Earth. Kind of like Jesus…incredible, powerful…and constantly crashing into our world, NOT just two thousand years ago, but EVERY day. All we have to do is look for Him. One of the easiest ways to see Christ more clearly in the world around us is to become more prayerful. Too often we become like robots in our prayer, and only pray at ‘certain’ or ‘appointed times’ during the day. Now, that’s okay…discipline and regularity in our prayer lives is good. It’s ALSO good, however, to pray at different times throughout the day. It doesn’t have to be long, or even very formal…just taking thirty seconds or a minute, here and there, to talk to God while we’re doing everyday things, like chores, or driving, or working out, or brushing our teeth…whenever. Prayer is like ‘tapping into God’s grace and power.’ It’s like going out into the middle of that thunderstorm, with God’s lightning crashing all around you, and holding up a huge metal antenna, saying, ‘Let me have it, Dad.’ Prayer is actively seeking out God, and tapping into Him, and just like I’d be ‘changed’ and ‘affected’ by holding up a piece of metal in a lightning storm (actually, it might make ME a little more normal), I will be affected even MORE greatly, in a spiritual way, by spending just a little more time in prayer, every day. SALVATION GIVEN “Lightning illuminates the world; the earth sees and trembles. The heavens proclaim God's justice; all peoples see his glory.” – Psalms 97:4,6 God…even when it pours, HE REIGNS.
