I love watching Gilmore Girls, Reba, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Deal or No Deal, Deal or No Deal, Whose Line is it Anyway, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O'Brian, and a lot of the older shows that play on Nick at Night and TV Land (Mad About You, the Cosby Show, Dick Van Dyke, and I Love Lucy).
I like all types of music really, except for rap. It's extremely rare that I'll actually like a rap song. Hip-Hop is not as bad, but I'm not often in the mood to listen to the few I do like.
As for books, I don't read romance novels. Mary Higgins Clark is my favorite mystery author, although she doesn't really have a series out, and I've been on a series kick lately. All her stories are individual. I love both Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and I'm currently reading, and loving, the Wheel of Time series.
Tolkien's works are perhaps the most beautifully written stories I've ever read, even though they're far from an easy read. The Silmarillion is not on a par with the trilogy. It has far too many characters, and none of them are developed at all. It's more like reading a history textbook than anything else. Tolkien's command of the English language, his way of making every sentence flow absolutely beautifully, is still present, however. The tale of Beren and Luthien is my favorite thing of all that I managed to read of the Silmarillion.
As for J.K. Rowling, I have to say that I really am not that crazy about her writing style. When she got to "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", it seemed to me that the reason it took so long for it to come out was that she'd been on the computer reading fanfiction because that was what especially the beginning couple of chapters read like: a fanfiction. Sad, really. What I really do like about the series, however, is the world she created; the concepts, the characters, the ideas, the storylines. Although, the sixth book was her weakest yet as far as writing style and storylines. Yes, we find out more about Tom Riddle. Yes, the ending is completely shocking. Until the end, however, there's really not much happening at all. She kinda threw the pairings together, without really leading up to them much at all (well, okay, so one pairing she did, but not the other two major ones. Not leading up to one of them is forgivable because they're not so much in the limelight, but the other one...she should have led up to it, hinted at it, not just thrown it in our faces as in a fanfiction). The sixth book really won't make a very good movie at all, I'm afraid, but I'll probably see it anyway and I am looking forward to the 5th one next summer. Here's hoping the 7th book will be better than the 6th!
What can I say about the Wheel of Time series? It's awesome, maybe moreso than the Lord of the Rings. It's bigger; I believe there are more characters, definitely more nations, and you actually get to see power being wielded by the characters who are supposed to be powerful. The Elves in Lord of the Rings are supposed to be powerful, but you never really get to see it. All you see is that they're immortal. The Aes Sedai in the Wheel of Time actually show their skills. They're very diverse; some are good, some are black, and some are gray. There's a lot of grayness in the Wheel of Time world. I kind of like Robert Jordan's style of writing, in that he's got a good sense of humor. There's some really funny scenes in the Wheel of Time books, and some excellent one-liners as well. He's also not difficult to read; it's just a lot of reading. He's very descriptive, leaving nothing out. He's too descriptive, in fact. Other than that, I like the series a lot. I would recommend it to someone who likes Lord of the Rings, who liked the Lord of the Rings movies but may not appreciate the complexity of his writing because his works are not exactly an easy read, who doesn't mind a lot of description, and who has a lot of time on their hands. :)
I am a movie addict. About the only genre of movies I don't really like are horror flicks and anime. I also won't necessarily watch a movie just because it's got an actor/actress I really like in that movie. It's got to have a decent-sounding plot as well. To that end, there's not really that many actors/actresses that I generally like. Actors/Actresses that would motivate me to see a movie I'm not sure about would be Jim Caviezel, Viggo Mortensen, Dakota Fanning, Sandra Bullock, Kate Hudson, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey (unless I can tell from the previews he's gonna be too over-the-top), Ashley Judd, and Reese Witherspoon. There's probably others I can't think of right now. Primarily, what makes me see a movie is if the preview itself seems interesting. I like the Spiderman movies and the X-Men movies. I like Pirates of the Caribbean. It's one of the few movies I actually like Orlando Bloom in. Of course, in that movie, Jack Sparrow is my favorite character.
The most interesting thing I have to say, I saved till last.
Glenn and I met at the Catholic Student Center in the Fall of 1999, and we eventually became friends. I was dating someone else at the time. That relationship ended June 2000, and I grew closer to Glenn until we finally started dating that October. We dated for 2 years when on Christmas Day, 2002, he finally proposed to me. We were engaged for about 2 1/2 years, and were finally married last June. At the time I am writing this, it's almost our first anniversary. Just 10 more days! I love him more than I can say.
The other major event that's happened in my life lately is that my sister, my younger sister, just gave me a nephew. He will be 5 months old on our first wedding anniversary and is absolutely adorable! I love him like my own son.
Well, I guess that's all I really have to say about me. I hope I didn't bore ya too much!
So you liked my webpage so much that you just HAD to find out more about me, eh? Well,
alright then, I'll tell you all about myself.
I'm a 25-year-old Catholic girl from Louisiana, known on AIM as estrellita0799, on
Yahoo as Estrellita5499, and Undernet on IRC as Stellina.
I'm a pharmacy major right now at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (they changed
the name 2 weeks after I got there, can you believe it?). At this point, I'm just ready to be done with school. I'm beyond ready to graduate, even though graduation is about 2 years away. I only have to take 3 more classes though in the fall semester, then a year of rotations. Hey, at least I don't have to spend that year in the classroom!
